Handmade Wednesdays: Candy Corn Banner!

This past weekend I went to my sister Bonnie’s house to hang out with her and her family. We had lots of fun carving pumpkins, watching scary stuff and eating amazingly well. On Sunday, I woke up to pumpkin muffins and sat down to stew and rosemary bread for dinner. And, to top it off, we had apple pie with a crumble crust for dessert. I’m not used to eating homemade food everyday or this well. It was a perfect autumn weekend and to add something a little extra, we made a craft that we hadn’t made before. The kids had fun and it turned out so well making for a great decoration that I thought I should share it with you.

What you need:

  • ribbon (we chose orange)
  • a few sheets of white felt (how much depends on how long the banner is)
  • orange craft paint
  • yellow craft paint
  • paintbrushes
  • hot glue gun

1.) Cut the sheets of felt into triangles. Make them as big or as small as you’d like. It just depends on the size of your banner and where it will be hung.

2.) Squeeze yellow paint onto the bottom third of the triangle and spread it on evenly with a straight line where it ends.

3.) Squeeze orange paint on the space above the yellow paint. Spread it around evenly on the second third of the triangle. Make a straight edge on both the top and bottom edges of the orange portion.

4.) Set aside to let it dry. Do this with all the triangles.

5.) Once they’re all dry, hot glue the bottoms of the candy corns to the ribbon.

6.) Let it dry for about 10 minutes and then hang it up!

Avery had to get in there

We hung it outside on the front window. Avery had to get involved someway. It went well with the fall sign Bonnie and the boys made a few weeks earlier. It’s some relatively simple and cute decor and can last long into the season after Halloween is over. I guarantee your kids will love making it and hopefully will look forward to hanging it up for years to come!
