Craig Bellamy Considers Retirement

Arsenal vs Manchester CityCraig Bellamy is not a quitter. But the Wales national team captain has been considering retirement over the last few years due to a variety of nagging injuries, the pressing football age of thirty one, and the difficulty of finding a spot on Manchester City’s 25 man roster.

And recently when German side Wolfsburg reportedly attempted to transfer for the forward, he turned them down. Apparently Bellamy has invested all of his interest in making the 25 man roster for the Blues squad and doesn’t really want to transfer to anywhere else. And this news means that if Bellamy is overlooked for the 25 man roster then his next closest option could possibly be retirement.

And Bellamy is still good enough to play significant minutes for tons of middle of the pack EPL squads, the forward didn’t rule out a potential move in January if he fails to make the competitive Blues roster. And Bellamy also admitted that he doubts he will make the team due to the huge signings by Roberto Mancini, but he still desires the opportunity to do so.

And although at times in the past I have detested Bellamy for his fiery attitude (like when he slapped a Man U fan in the face that had been restrained after running on the pitch) I must admit that he is one of those guys that you would love on your team, but hate playing against.

In other words Bellamy “keeps it real” as they say.

Last year he slighted John Terry twice. First, he pulled off the hilarious no-look handshake when passing him in line during the Bridge-Terry feud. Then after a dominating multi-goal performance he admitted that everyone in the league knows what Terry is really like. Ouch!

And if you’re a Chelsea fan then you probably aren’t too high on the Welsh forward, but Bellamy is loyal to his club maybe to a fault. It has to be considered doubtful that Bellamy will make the roster especially if Robinho is forced to stay in England. But if Mancini is unable to land Balotelli then perhaps the forward could grab one of the final spots. The one pressing issue that will definitely hurt Bellamy’s chances is the fact that the Blues are loaded in the midfield and have 7 or 8 solid options at the position. That might mean the team carries one less forward then normal and Bellamy could easily be that unfortunate footballer.

We will have to wait and see how this plays out, but Craig Bellamy’s football days may soon be over.
