Applying your Keywords to your pages

Most people try to make a page rank for far too many keywords. If you want a page to rank well then you should make sure that it is focused on a specific subject.

Google and the other major search engines are looking for quality sites with quality pages that are all about a particular topic. If you therefore publish your home page with information about your property letting business, your hat shop, fly fishing and amateur dramatics, Google will conclude that it is a general information page and rank it as such.

If however you have a page for each different topic, and let the home page focus on one of your sublects then Google et al will conclude that your pages are each worthy of inclusion high in the rankings as they are about one subject each fromn start to finish. The search engines want to provide good quality information to their searchers, so why don't you give it to them?

You want to make sure that your page title includes the keywords for that page, not much else, just your keywords and variations of them.

Repeat these within the metatags, as well as alt tags for images too. You will also want to include your keywords within your <h> </h> tags as these are important to Google.

Once you have done all of these steps you pages will stand a much better chance of ranking well as Google will know what you want it to do with them.

Now you have completed the "On-page" optimization, next post will deal with "Off-page" optimization and how you can get those all important high quality links pointing to your website.
