CPR: If you learned cardiopulmonary resuscitation, you may have practiced on a mannequin known as either CPR Annie or Rescue Annie. Her face, though, is even more famous, especially in France, since it was modeled on the death mask of an unknown girl who drowned in the Seine sometime around 1900. Soon, France became obsessed with “L'inconnue de la Seine.” Whoever she was, she has helped save countless lives since.
Negative form: Horst Hoheisel had a terrific idea for Berlin's Holocaust Memorial. At least he thought so. Hoheisel wanted to destroy the Brandenburg Gate and drop some granite slabs over the rubble. It seems, however, that the artwork was actually the proposal itself. Indeed, there are lithographs of it at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The actual memorial, a block south of the gate, consists of almost five acres of granite blocks.
