Considering Applying for a Credit Card Online? Read This First.

There are a lot of things to consider when you choose a credit card.

Knowing the grace period for payments is one of the key things to know. People that are late on their payment are a big reason why an introductory annual percentage rate is waived and a much higher rate is applied.

By definition the grace period is the number of days you have to pay your bill in full without activating a higher finance charge. As an example the company may give you 25 days from the statement date, provided you paid your preceding balance in full by the due date. Your statement date will be provided on the bill.

The grace period is usually reserved for new purchases only. You will be hard pressed to find a company to give one on cash advances and balance transfers. In those cases your interest rate will be effective immediately.

A grace period is usually set up so that you have to pay your balance in full from the previous month. If you would carry over a balance then you would pay interest on it the following month. You should also make sure that making a new purchase does not affect the interest rate. Reading thru the terms and conditions and understanding everything they contain is essential.

People have a lot to think about when they are in the market for a new credit card. Knowing and understanding what kind of grace period (if any) is on the card is very important.
