Chris asks…

Credit repair letters?

I am currently going through a credit crisis and need to know if writing letters to dispute my credit defaults will help me delete these accounts. I found a website http://www.easycreditrepairkit.com but I am very skeptical and would like to know if any one has tried this system.

Credit-Repair-Guy answers:

If it’s bad but it’s true, you’re stuck with it. If bad things could be deleted, everybody would do it and credit reports would contain only good things and thus be useless.

Credit “repair” companies are useless.

Thomas asks…

Credit repair Letters needed.?

I need to send letters to a couple creditors to clear up my credit rating / credit score. Can someone recommend a good place to find them?

Credit-Repair-Guy answers:

Forgot to mention that this site also has a good Q&A section that might be a resource for you.
Here’s the link again, http://www.creditscoresystems.com

FYI, I’ve been through the “ringer” with creditor issues. While it’s certainly not fun, most creditors will work with you. They would rather get X% settlement, paid over time, than zero dollars.

That being said, if you don’t plan on paying your credit cards, or simply can’t, I have heard of some people (*not me) just blow off credit card balances. Eventually they will give up because credit cards loans are unsecured. The calls will stop and the letters will stop. BUT, they will mess up your credit report for a good 7-10 years.

I am not condoning this. Just offering advice from someone who has been in the trenches and survived – with a current and nice credit score, after 8 years :) …….

Another thing is that if you are in deep financial trouble, I HIGHLY recommend against borrowing money against your house (2nd Mtg/ refinance) to pay off credit cards.
Don’t risk your house with a higher mortgage just to get CC balances off your back. If you can’t pay the CC companies, you can’t pay. Negotiate with the CC companies for a lower rate and balance. They will work with you, but don’t lose your home over it if you can’t make the higher mortage payments.

William asks…

Is there a way to repair your credit by sending registered letters denying the debts to the credit report cos.

I have heard this often. That you can send registered letters denying the debts one by one to the three credit reporting bureaus and if they didn’t provide proof of the debts within 30 days or something that they had to remove the debts. Everything except judgements. Is this true? If so, how is it done exactly?

Credit-Repair-Guy answers:

Anything that is reported to credit bureaus has to be reported correctly. You can dispute anything that is incorrect. The credit bureaus has to notify you creditors of the dispute. They have thirty days to respond. If they do not, the information has to be removed.
(You do not have to send it registered mail, regular mail will do).
