Creighton Wins First Ever Missouri Valley Tournament Championship; Nebraska loses

Twenty-fifth ranked Creighton needed 12 innings and a miraculous two-out rally to defeat 10th and 12th ranked Wichita State and win its first ever Missouri Valley Conference Championship early Sunday morning. Creighton, which lost 2-1 to the Shockers on Saturday afternoon, was down to its final out in the bottom of the 11th inning after falling behind by three runs in the top of the 11th. Ambidextrous Creighton pitcher Pat Venditte was named the MVC Tournament's MVP. The NCAA will announce Regional host teams on May 27th, and will unvail the entire 64-team tournament field on May 28th.
With tough defense and good pitching, the Bluejays could be a threat to go deep into the NCAA Tournament, which is more than I can say for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Nebraska lost 5-4 Saturday to 5th ranked Texas in the Big 12 Tournament, and now must wait and see if they will be chosen for the NCAA Tournament. After a mediocre 30-25 season, including a 14-13 conference record, Nebraska may be one of the last at-large teams selected, and will likely be placed in an extremely difficult region.
