Christmas is such an emotionally messy time for many people. Drinking either brings out the best, well not the best, but the funny or cute side, or the worst in people. People let down their guard. I learned a few things this Christmas. Like this: my ex is my ex for a reason. I decided to pay him a short Christmas Eve visit and it was short: 3 minutes to be exact, before he asked me to leave, or I should say kicked me out. Then yesterday, my neighbour, who apparently has a thing for me, said he had a present for me and when I went over there he started pouring me whole glasses of vodka while he drank beer. I disposed of most of it, had a polite drink and then extracted myself. Nice man, but no. People get lonely. Being alone during the holidays must be depressing. I am so lucky to have good family and friends to celebrate with. Celebrating with my sons and their significant others always means champagne and oysters and great conversation and most importantly lots of love going around the room. I wish that for everyone.
