All Croatian soccer fans remember October 7th 2006 and November 21st 2007. First it all happened in Zagreb when Croatia defeated England 2:0 and more than a year later it was this memorable night at Wembley Stadium when Croatia won 3:2. Not only did Croatia's win at Wembley destroy all English hopes of participation at Euro 2008 but it also cost Bruce McLaren his job.
Fast Forward ... September 10th, 2008, Maksimir Stadium, Zagreb: England wants revenge for the shame of the Euro 2008 qualifiers, while Croatia wants to prove that it was not only two lucky nights. Croatia is hungry for more but they will miss midfielder Niko Kranjcar who is out with an injury.
It's quite suspicious that around one week ago rumours were spread, that West Ham United is interested in Croatia's coach Slaven Bilic. True or not .. it's the timing that makes the whole story so interesting. Could it be that some people in England are so nervous about the game in Zagreb, that they try to disturbe the peace within the Croatian squad?
Another interesting fact about the clash Croatia vs. England: Croatia has never lost a Euro or World Cup qualifier in Zagreb, which means that Croatia has never been defeated at Maksimir Stadium since 1991!
