i just love this book. i have bought many, many books on this subject and this is by far the best. it covers 4 kinds of felting; felting knitted and crocheted items, wet felting, needle felting and recycled felting. i've been felting for a while - mainly knit/crochet felting and needle felting. but i am now going to try the other two methods after reading this book. one thing that i really liked is a full color page of swatches showing non-wool 'fancy yarns' felted with wool yarns. wow! what a time saver to be able to see what they look like w/o doing ... I am venturing into knitting again and because I am feeling impatient and looking for quick results - I picked up Lion Brand Yarn Hometown USA. This is a bulky, easy care yarn that works wonderfully with a pair of size 13 needles. Since we are in the beginning of the holiday season, I chose white and red......so.......guess what pattern I'm doing? You got it - STRIPES! I am knitting a striped candy cane influence scarf. I couldn't resist! So far, I am very happy with how quick this works up. I may even try some granny squares with this and make a big, ... Read Full Story

I'm trying to teach myself to knit/crochet and have found that one of the major barriers to learning is the yarn - acrylic yarn to be exact. It irritates my skin. Seriously, it's feels like extra-fine steel wool against my skin and the tips of my fingers are beginning to crack, something they are prone to in wet/cold weather. Since I'm new to the whole knitting/crochet thing, I don't want to invest a whole lot of money into yarn in case it...

Four years of legal wrangling between a French knit and crochet designer and the house of Chanel are set to be resolved next month. I've been crocheting a beret, and like all my crochet projects, I don't use a pattern. I can't use one, for a very simple reason.  I don't really know what I'm doing when I crochet; my work is intuitive. The beret is designed "in my head."  My big question is the diameter.  I don't have any berets in my hat collection, so I'm not sure how large it should be before I either continue a few rows at maximum or start decreasing. I'd appreciate some...

Knitting filter: Help me get my yarn unstuck from my circular needle. I am currently working on this hat and I have gotten my yarn stuck on the needle while decreasing. This is my first time ever using circular needles, and Google-fu and Ravelry are failing me. It seems that my stitches have gotten tight as I've decreased and now they are so small that I can't move them onto the ends of the needles without potentially ripping my yarn. Can...
