Crochet - A Useful Addiction

Crochet really is one of those activities that just make you feel great, it doesn't matter what it is you happen to be making. Whether you are a beginner or expert crocheter, you can't help but wind up feeling great about the project that you can make from just a plain skein of yarn and a crochet hook.

I learned how to crochet when I was very young, but really had not done a whole lot of it until I left work on maternity leave when I was pregnant with my first son. I found myself with all kinds of time to really ramp things up and master some details I didn't know concerning the art of crochet.

I had never tried to follow challenging patterns, but I had seen a lot of the wonderful items that one could make with crochet, I made it my mission to learn all that I was able. There were many times when I was very tempted to just forget it, but I continued, mastering all kinds of new stitches and new techniques, and after a while, I considered myself a "seasoned" crocheter.

Not only can you make gorgeous things, but the act of crocheting has been proven to be a stress reducer. It's also quite relaxing and also makes you keep your hands busy so you're not eating all the time! It has reached the point where I usually can't sit in front of the TV if I do not have a hook in my hand.

I have created numerous of things that I'm very proud of. Afghans, pet toys, baby blankets, adult garments, slippers, socks and scarves, all of which can, and have been created as gifts for friends and family. One of the best aspects of it is the happiness I get to see on the faces of the people I make items for. I've also done quite a bit of crocheting to put up for sale. This could even be a nice small business for those that wanted to earn some additional income.

If you know how to crochet, you know that everything I've said is the truth. If you have not crocheted before, or you are just starting to learn how to crochet, you will realize in short order how rewarding it can be. You must not give up n it. This is an "art" that takes dedication to learn and can be quite frustrating at times, but, if you keep going, stitch by stitch, you will ultimately become proficient.

If you are one of those types who are very artistic, you could really do well with designing your very own patterns as you progress. This may also be a money maker for you since people will pay nicely for beautiful patterns.

If you are happy to follow other's patterns, there are a staggering number of patterns -- both free and for sale -- on the internet for just about any item you might dream of, and I mean anything! I have come across patterns for projects that run the gamut from cat toys to tissue box holders, so you will want to look around at all the free patterns online.
