I live in Happy Camp, a tiny town in the middle of the Klamath National Forest in Northern California. About 1200 people live here, and some of them claim to have seen Bigfoot. Some of the Bigfoot sighting locations are within a mile of my home.
I have never seen a Bigfoot, but since I live so close to the sightings, I'm curious about whether or not they really exist. After talking to dozens of people who say they've seen Bigfoot, I'm convinced that they probably are out there, watching us in our world of busy human endeavor, maybe even laughing at us or shaking their heads in dismay. Our town is in a valley surrounded by forested ridges. They could stand on any of those hills and observe us, undetected.
One of the locals said she used to live in a cabin on U.S. Forest Service property. One bedroom in the cabin often shook as if something were passing by in a tunnel underground. One night she and her son detected an unpleasant odor, then heard something walking around the cabin. Her son screamed, saying he'd seen a hairy face at the window. It was the only actual sighting they had but she was convinced she lived in Bigfoot's territory. She later moved out and the cabin was torn down by the Forest Service.
The famous Bigfoot filmed by Patterson and Gimlin lived near Bluff Creek, which is only fifty miles from our town. We pass Bluff Creek every time we drive southeast on the Klamath River Highway (also known as the Bigfoot Scenic Byway) to get to Eureka in Northern California.
I used to own
Happy Camp News and wrote several Bigfoot articles there. Now I write about Bigfoot on my blog,
Bigfoot Sightings. I also wrote about Bigfoot sightings in my neighborhood on my
Bigfoot Sightings Lens.
