Cuauhtemoc Blanco left Major League Soccer in 2009 to join Veracruz of the Mexican second division, and now he is on the brink of joining his third team in the last nine months.

According to Mexican daily Record, Blanco will sign for Irapuato of the Liga de Ascenso.

"It's a six-month contract for this season," Irapuato spokesman Hector Hernandez told Record. "On Thursday he will come and sign the contract and then will be presented to the fans and the media a few mintues before our next game against Dorados (on Saturday)."

Blanco, 37, was part of Mexico's 2010 World Cup team and scored a goal against France. He became the first Mexican player to score in three different World Cups when he converted a penalty kick in El Tri's 2-0 win. Blanco started against Uruguay but did not play against Argentina.

MLS side Chicago Fire were reportedly interested in bringing Blanco back to the United States but Blanco has apparently spurned that interest.
