Former Kentucky Derby winner Lil E. Tee, has died from complications following an operation last month to repair an obstructed bowel.
Lil E. Tee, who was the surprise winner of the 1992 Kentucky Derby, was 20 years old. He was euthanized last Wednesday at Old Frankfort Stud.
The chestnut colt's career nearly ended before it began after Lil E. Tee underwent lifesaving stomach surgery as a yearling, dimming his racing prospects.
However, Lil E. Tee recovered and went on to win the Jim Beam Stakes and finished second in the Arkansas Derby to earn a spot in the Run for the Roses.
At odds of 17-1, Lil E. Tee shocked the racing world by defeating heavy favourite Arazi to win the Kentucky Derby.
