Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning and Curt Schilling

Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning

A few years ago when I was playing World of Warcraft I listened to The Instance, which has to be one of the more ‘hardcore’ podcasts about the game. They had a regular guest on the show by the name of Curt Schilling, who is more widely known for baseball, and he would be talking about 38 Studios and a role playing game that he was working on.

It turns out that Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning is the RPG and the release date is set for the 10th of February 2012. Giant Bomb were talking about the game and they described it as having a World of Warcraft type world layout with a fighting style similar to, but not quite as complex, as the God of War series. I don’t know about you but that ticks a couple of major boxes for me.

Curt Schilling hasn’t wasted any time in hiring some of the best people when putting together 38 Studios. R.A. Salvatore has released over 40 fantasy based novels, selling over 15 million books. He is a New York Times best selling author, responsible for books such as The Dark Elf Trilogy and The Paths of Darkness and now he is the Executive Creator of Worlds.

Also on the books is Todd McFarlane who is the creative mind behind Spawn so as you can imagine the story of Reckoning should be pretty cool. What else has Todd McFarlane been involved in? One of my favourite Korn songs, Freak on a Leash, has Todd to thank for the outstanding video that comes with it.

Finally, and it strikes quite close to home with Skyrim being a massive part of my gaming life, Ken Rolsten who was the lead designer in The Elder Scrolls Oblivion.

From what I’ve heard about the game so far it’s sounding great and I’m sure that between 38 Studios, Big Huge Games and EA, Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning is sure to be something worth looking forward to.
