GM 14 bolt?| Chevy Truck World Topic

I am looking to replace my 10 bolt in my 98 Z71 with a 6 lug 14 bolt. I need a little advice.I am mostly into cars as a hobby and I always used my truck for work. But I want to start fixing up my truck now.

A junkyard out near me(NY)has a rebuilt rear for $1200.

Does this sound like a good price?

How do I know that the rear I am getting from the junkyard is for a 4x4?

Do I go by the numbers (where can I look them up)? I was also told that the same rear out of a 2wd is narrower and wouldn't be good. Then a friend of mine says the 4x4 14 bolt doesn't come stock with 4:10's. Where can I get some more info?

I want to make sure I don't get ripped off.

Thanks, Jim

The guys at pirate 4x4 will have your answers. I got good info on my suburbans 14bolt there. Peter
I just did a swap on my 97,i found a 89 4x4 2500 they are six lug.you will need to use your yoke for the drive shaft and keep your e brake cables as well.other than that it bolts in the same.i used the springs out of the 2500 because i tow a boat alot.they bolt in with out any changes, the 2wd rear is narrow and will not line up.
almost forgot mine had 342 gears and so did the 89 2500
