It seems that the Fresh Prince has plans to do more than watch the throne, as he is rumored to be plotting a return to rap. According to an article with XXL, Longtime friend and estranged collaborator DJ Jazzy Jeff revealed that “He came down like two weeks ago and was like ‘Yo, I wanna get back in the studio, and we just knocked out some stuff”. Jeff also said “Will has never not wanted to do music. When you’re pretty much the biggest movie star in the world, the movie people don’t want you to do music ‘cause you ain’t making $50 million off of music. From a financial perspective, movies is where it’s at. And it’s not like his heart is not in the movies, but he’s always wanted to do some level of music.”
The pioneering Grammy-winning duo has not collaborated on a studio album since 1993’s “Code Red”, while Smith’s last solo effort was 2005’s “Lost and Found”. But fans shouldn’t dust off their OG Jordans in honor of the Prince just yet. Smith has several film obligations to tend to before possibly entertaining any music cravings, including the third installment of the “Men in Black” series, due in 2012.
