The Chicago Blackhawks have ousted general manager Dale Tallon. The decision comes after the NHL Players Association filed a grievance when the team missed a deadline for sending qualifying offer to restricted free agents. Team president John McDonough says the mistake was not all Tallon's fault. But asked if the move to replace Tallon would have been made if not for the mix-up, McDonough said: "Probably not." McDonough said the team needed to improve its communication and decision making. Tallon has been replaced by assistant GM Stan Bowman, the son of legendary NHL coach Scotty Bowman. The Chicago Blackhawks resolved some of the administrative problems surrounding their restricted free agents by signing five of those players on Monday. The Blackhawks announced they had agreed to two-year deals with forward Troy Brouwer and goaltender Corey Crawford. Forwards Ben Eager and Colin Fraser, and defenseman Aaron Johnson each signed one-year contracts. Notably absent from the list of signed players were forward Kris Versteeg, an NHL rookie-of-the-year finalist, and defenseman Cam Barker. Although it's unlikely, both Versteeg and Barker could be declared unrestricted free agents in light of a grievance filed by the NHL Players' Association (NHLPA) on Monday. Chicago Blackhawks general manager Dale Tallon is wasting little time in trying to keep the team together after a strong run in the postseason. The Blackhawks, who hadn't been in the playoffs since 2002, were knocked out of the Western Conference finals by Detroit on Wednesday night. On Friday, Tallon said he spoke with Allan Walsh, the agent for Martin Havlat, about retaining the forward who could become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. "Marty has stated that he wants to stay here and we want Marty back. We'll just keep working at it and see if we can get it done," Tallon ... Read Full Story

CHICAGO, July 14 (UPI) -- The Chicago Blackhawks have fired general manager Dale Tallon and replaced him with assistant general manager Stan Bowman, hockey sources said. Tallon built the Blackhawks into a Stanley Cup contender after being named general manager in 2005. He came under fire recently, however, for sending qualifying offers to restricted free agents late, causing them to be delivered after the deadline set by the league's collective bargaining agreement, The Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday. Tallon played for the Hawks from 1973 to 1978 and served as the Hawks' color analyst for broadcasts for 16 years before joining the front office as ... Read Full Story
It is clear that French-born Cristobal Huet’s aspirations as a Number One Goaltender—and not just in Chicago—are riding on this season's performance.   When then-Blackhawks General Manager Dale Tallon signed Huet for four years at over five and a half million dollars per, Cristobal was coming off a stunning end of season stint with the Washington Capitals: 11-2, a 1.63 GAA, 2 shutouts and a .936 save percentage. In a hot UFA market, reportedly...
