A top NBA franchise out of Dallas, the "Mavs" have been playoff material since 2001 with coaching from the great Don Nelson and such players as Steve Nash (currently a 2-year MVP at Phoenix Suns) passing through its roster. Said to have the best offense in the NBA, the team, now under coach-of-the-year Avery Johnson and led by the oft MVP-nominated Dirk Nowitzki, finished the 2007 season first in the league with a whopping 67 wins.

It is a fact that the Golden State Warriors are quite the injured squad. Consider that in Tuesday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks, they only had eight players suited up while only 6 actually played, not to mention that coach Don Nelson was down with a case of pneumonia. But to be fair, the Mavericks were without Josh Howard, Shawn Marion and Erick Dampier due to injury. Sounds like a handicap doesn’t it? At first glance, yes. But a pair of Warriors – Monta Ellis and Anthnoy Morrow – stepped up to the plate offensively. Both combined for 64 points, leading Golden State past ... Read Full Story

Dirk Nowitzki hit a fallaway 18-footer as time expired in overtime to give the Dallas Mavericks a 115-113 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night. With 3.1 seconds left, Nowitzki caught a pass from Jason Kidd, who finished a point short of a triple-double, and threw it up over Luc Richard Mbah a Moute. The ball rattled off the rim and backboard, dropping softly through the hoop as the backboard lights came on. The play was briefly reviewed, but counted. Nowitzki, who finished with 32 points and 11 rebounds, immediately untucked his jersey and celebrated with his teammates near the Mavericks' bench. Bucks ... Read Full Story

A little confrontation woke Dirk Nowitzki right up. Nowitzki scored 15 of his 20 points in a tense third quarter and also grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a 89-77 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday night. Nowitzki only had a quiet five points and five rebounds in the first half before jawing with Timberwolves rookie Jonny Flynn five minutes into the third. He received a technical foul, then scored 13 points, grabbed five rebounds and blocked three shots in the next seven minutes to hand the Timberwolves their ninth straight loss. One thing every Dallas Mavericks fan can agree on is that we want Rodrique Beaubois to play more minutes.  Sometimes bringing up the future stud takes patience, and for now the Mavericks have the luxury of taking their time with Roddy.   Little Roddy is blazing fast like Devon Harris—maybe faster, but Roddy knows how to throttle that speed down when he needs to, unlike Harris.  That should lessen the likelihood that he injures himself by crash...

Let's go back two-and-a-half years to April 2007. To the objection of many (myself included), Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki appeared to be a mortal lock to win the MVP award. (Steve Nash had the better season, and actually deserved the award more than he did in the previous two seasons that he had actually won it, but back to the relevant story.) That season, Dirk averaged 24.6 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.  While these are...
