A top NBA franchise out of Dallas, the "Mavs" have been playoff material since 2001 with coaching from the great Don Nelson and such players as Steve Nash (currently a 2-year MVP at Phoenix Suns) passing through its roster. Said to have the best offense in the NBA, the team, now under coach-of-the-year Avery Johnson and led by the oft MVP-nominated Dirk Nowitzki, finished the 2007 season first in the league with a whopping 67 wins.
Nowitzki filing seeks custody of unborn child
Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki has filed court papers seeking sole custody of his former girlfriend's unborn child should genetic testing proves he's the father.
The June 12 petition, obtained by the Beaumont Enterprise newspaper and posted on its Web site, has since been sealed.
Crystal Taylor, arrested May 6 at Nowitzki's Dallas home, has repeatedly said he is the father. Neither is specifically named in the document, but the petitioner is identified as "D.N." and the respondent as "C.T." Her attorney told the Beaumont newspaper that she knew the documents had been filed but declined comment.
Taylor is in the Jefferson County jail in Beaumont. She is accused of paying for almost $11,000 in dental work with a credit card she didn't have permission to use.
