Dame Helen Mirren to star in Red

One of modern-day cinema's greatest dames, Helen Mirren, will star in the espionage thriller Red.

Mirren will join Hollywood heavyweights Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman for the adaptation of the DC Comics series, according to a trade magazine.

Red will adapt a three-book story that tells the tale of a retired CIA agent who is targeted by a high-tech hitman.

Mirren, 64, won an Academy Award for best actress in The Queen. She has described herself as "being famous for being cool about not being gorgeous".

The movie is set for release next November.
