The Greatest Kansas City Chiefs, By the Numbers: #2

By cthorman on  From arrowheadpride.com
Player Years QB Tom Clements 1980 K *** ******* 1994-95 P Kelly Goodburn 1987-90 K Eddie Murray 1992 K Todd Peterson 2000-01 Ah yes. Good 'ole #2 in the Chiefs jersey lexicon. Cursed? Perhaps. Understandably, most of these #2s are kickers. Here are the NFL jersey number assignments by position , which have been in affect since 1973: Numbers 1 to 19 are worn by quarterbacks, kickers, and punters . Since 2004, wide receivers are also...Read Full Story

By cthorman on  From arrowheadpride.com
More photos » Chris O'Meara - AP Browse more photos » The Kansas City Chiefs saw five players miss practice with injuries on Monday and one player return. Missing on Monday, according to Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com was Darryl Harris , Maurice Leggett , Cameron Sheffield , Ryan O'Callaghan and Tamba Hali . Harris has been out several weeks with an injury. If he hasn't been placed on PUP then we've gotta think he'll be ready to go sometime in the first month of the season...Read Full Story

Who is the Worst All-Time First Round Pick by the Kansas City Chiefs?

By cthorman on  From arrowheadpride.com
The Real Deal laughs at these first round busts. Following up yesterday's discussion about who the all-time best first round pick is by the Chiefs, we now turn toward who is the worst first round pick of all time. This should be fun. I've got a bit of dilemma in getting the poll together though. It's easier to look back at the 1960s and 1970s and pick out the greatest players.  But for someone who did not grow up that era, it's pretty difficult to pick out the first round busts...Read Full Story

Offseason Brodie Croyle Returns

By cthorman on  From arrowheadpride.com
More photos » Orlin Wagner - AP Browse more photos » Last year, the Chiefs had given up a second round pick for Matt Cassel and handed him a $63 million contract essentially guaranteeing he'd be the starter. Even with that, the early word during training camp last year was that Brodie Croyle was outplaying the Chiefs new quarterback. Could it really happen? Could Croyle overtake Cassel? The answer was no. Cassel won the job that remains his to this day. The questions...Read Full Story

The Chiefs Can't Stop Won't Stop the Run

By cthorman on  From arrowheadpride.com
Not much to say this morning. I'm still getting back in the groove but I was able to catch yesterday's "game" by the Kansas City Chiefs. Here are a couple of tidbits from yesterday. Bye, bye Brodie By far the biggest story to come out of yesterday's game was the knee injury of Brodie Croyle , which will sideline him for the rest of the year and presumably he will not start another NFL football game for the Kansas City Chiefs. Croyle has let down the team with injuries far too often in his...Read Full Story

Three players trying to save their roster spot

By Cartman on  From chiefsgab.com
As evidence by the release of second year receiver Will Franklin more than a month ago, Scott Pioli and Todd Haley have zero tolerance for underperforming players or players brought in by Herm Edwards whom they have nothing invested in. Franklin’s release was the result of Scott Pioli stealing a page out of father in law Bill Parcell’s playbook. The play is simple when you take over a team you cannot completely turn over a roster in just one off season so you release a player who appears to...Read Full Story

Chiefs QB Damon Huard Moved to IR; Larry Johnson Deactivated for Sunday

By cthorman on  From arrowheadpride.com
First Brodie Croyle and now Damon Huard is gone for the rest of the 2008 season, supposedly with an injured hand. That leaves the Kansas City Chiefs with Tyler "Bones" Thigpen, just-signed former Jaguar Quinn Gray and Ingle Martin. Thigpen will start, with Martin as the backup and Gray as the #3 QB. Here's the only link I can find to this online, which is from The Fort Mill Times . I have confirmed this elsewhere though. Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson will be deactivated...Read Full Story

Maybe Dick Curl Wasn't So Bad for the Chiefs

By cthorman on  From arrowheadpride.com
via www.midwestsportsfans.com Kansas City Chiefs fans wallowed in misery the day former quarterbacks coach Dick Curl left the team for an assistant position with the St. Louis Rams on January 26th.  No, it wasn't because he presided over arguably the worst set of quarterbacks in the NFL in 2007 and 2008. It's because, well, we'll never have another porn star name like Dick Curl again. But Curl didn't exit Kansas City without leaving his stamp on the organization.  He's the one who was...Read Full Story

Chiefs Release Huard, Edwards and Merritt, Too

By cthorman on  From arrowheadpride.com
via www.kcchiefsfootball.com Just a little bit we ago we learned that the Chiefs released veteran Patrick Surtain . We thought veteran Donnie Edwards might be close behind him. Turns out it wasn't just Edwards that was cut. The Chiefs released quarterback Damon Huard , cornerback Patrick Surtain and linebacker Donnie Edwards today. Also released was tight end Mike Merritt . None of these moves are much of a surprise for those who have been following the Chiefs offseason. Damon...Read Full Story
