I grew up around racetracks and tinkering on cars in the garage with my dad, and I went nuts in 2005 when it looked like Danica Patrick was going to win the Indy 500. She’s been one of my favorite sexy athletes ever since, and on Sunday, Patrick will make her 5th start in the big show at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

If she wins it this time, nobody is going to treat it like a fluke or even a novelty: She won an IndyCar Series event in Japan last year and will have Indy legend Michael Andretti on her team as race day strategist on Sunday, and everyone on the IMS track respects her as a threat for first place, even from her tough starting position in the number 10 slot.

The race will be a win for Danica Patrick no matter which way it shakes out: She’s also debuting a fun, cheeky twist in a new race day spot for Boost Mobile’s “Unwronged” campaign which will feature her pit crew in skimpy women’s clothing, her racy ads for GoDaddy.com have been attracting attention this month, and she’s now starring in a new Body By Milk campaign, milk moustache and all (see slideshow below for sexy outtakes!). There are also rumors flying around about a possible move to NASCAR racing after Patrick finishes the Indy 500, which, needless to say, would be big bucks with massive marketing potential. Get ready to be hearing – and seeing – a whole lot more from Ms. Patrick.

In a 20Q feature at Playboy.com today, Patrick – who has successfully managed to balance a serious professional career competiting against the boys with a seriously sexy modelling sideline and public persona – explains that the dichotomy has been in her life from the beginning:

PLAYBOY: When you were a little girl, which was your toy of choice, Barbie or Hot Wheels?

PATRICK: Well, it depends on what age we’re talking about. I had a hundred Barbies, and I turned cardboard boxes on their sides and made them into Barbie houses. But I always liked Mr. T, too. That must have been the start of something masculine. And I did have the Barbie car.
