Swedish star Daniel Sedin breaks foot
Sweden's Daniel Sedin sustained the first major injury of his NHL career, suffering a broken foot in Wednesday's Vancouver Canucks' game against the Montreal Canadiens.
The 29-year-old Sedin, who plays on a line for the Canucks with his twin brother Henrik, is expected to be out four-to-six weeks with the injury.
Doctors put a cast on the foot which was fractured when he was struck by a shot from teammate Alex Edler. Sedin played the rest of the game with the broken foot.
The Sedins have played their entire nine-year career with the Canucks. In the past Daniel has missed no more than seven games in a season.
The twins are one of the best one-two punches in the league and signed a five-year deal with Vancouver prior to the 2009-2010 regular season.
Daniel Sedin has represented Sweden numerous times in international competition, winning a gold medal at the 2006 Turin Games. He also has two bronze medals from the 1999 and 2001 World Championships.
In 82 NHL games last season, Daniel had 31 goals and 82 points.
