Dante Wesley of the Carolina Panthers nearly caused a full-on fight Sunday, after an a sickening cheap shot on Clifton Smith of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers . The hit, which saw Smith laid out on the field for minutes afterward, was enough to get Wesley ejected from the game. Wesley rushed at Smith as Smith attempted to catch a punt, driving his forearm into Clifton's throat. Tim Twentyman ( yes, he is a real person ) of the Detroit News is reporting that the Detroit Lions have signed unrestricted free agent cornerback Dante Wesley . According to Twentyman, the deal is two seasons long. Wesley mainly preforms on special teams, but he also adds depth at cornerback. Bucs place KR Clifton Smith on injured reserve

Tampa Bay kick returner Clifton Smith will miss the rest of the season after his second concussion in less than two months. The second-year pro was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, two days after he was hurt making a tackle on the opening kickoff of Sunday's 16-6 loss at Carolina.
