A community portal about Darfur with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: Darfur is a region of far western Sudan, bordering the Central African Republic, Libya, and Chad. It is divided into three federal states within Sudan: Gharb Darfur (West Darfur), Janub Darfur (South Darfur), and Shamal Darfur (North Darfur). It is currently in the midst of an ongoing humanitarian crisis involving Arab Janjaweed militias and black African rebels.

The Sudanese journalist briefly jailed for wearing "indecent trousers" said Wednesday she might not return to her country but instead continue her campaign for women's rights from abroad. Lubna Ahmed Hussein, who said she defied a travel ban and sneaked out of Sudan wearing a full Islamic veil to hide her identity, said however she was not planning to ask for asylum in Europe. Three weeks have passed without news of two kidnapped civilians working for the joint United Nations African Union Mission in Darfur, a UNAMID spokesman said on Tuesday. The pair, a Zimbabwean woman and a Nigerian man, were kidnapped in August at Zalingei in west Darfur about 100 kilometres (60 miles) from the Chad border. "It's now three weeks since we have had any news of them," UNAMID spokesman Noureddine Mezni told AFP. "These are difficult conditions -- no one would want to be in their place. UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Khartoum's U.N. envoy, rejecting a bleak U.N. assessment of the situation in Sudan's conflict-torn western Darfur region, said on Monday it was time for international peacekeepers to prepare to leave. Saying it omitted key information, Sudan's U.N. ambassador, Abdalmahmoud Abdalhaleem, criticized the latest report about Darfur by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, which says Khartoum has broken a deal on deploying the peacekeepers. "One big fact should be the focus of the report -- that the war is over," he told Reuters.
