Rory Markas (54) one of the Angels’ play-by-play sport-caster since 2002 has died. The Los Angeles Angels’ team owned radio station AM 830, broadcast his death this morning. The station did not give the details of cause of the death.
“I think now everyone should just celebrate what a good person he was,” broadcast colleague Terry Smith told AM 830. Markas had surgery for a blood clot on his brain in late 2008.
Markas was with the Los Angeles Angels from 1994 to 1997. Many memorize his call in the 2002 World Series when centre fielder Darin Erstad was about to make the final out, “Erstad says he’s got it; Erstad makes the catch; the Anaheim Angels are the champions of
baseball”.
Markas broadcasts for the Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Clippers, University of Southern California men’s basketball, and Pacific Coast League baseball. Markas also had been a sports journalist for KNX Radio and a sports-anchor for KTTV.
He was honoured with two Associated Press Sports casting awards and received the Radio Play-by-Play Award from the Southern California Sports Broadcasters Association in 2008.
Markas is lived by his mother, Billie and Brothers Gary and Troy. There are no updates of Markas death reasons and funeral timings. May god give strength to his family members to bear this irreparable loss!
