Dave Trembley's job as manager of the Baltimore Orioles isn't complete: He will get the opportunity to see the team's arduous rebuilding process through to its next stage. Trembley will return to manage the Orioles next year after the club announced Friday that it will exercise the 2010 option on his contract. The decision came a day after the Orioles (61-98) broke a 13-game losing streak, third-longest in Baltimore history. "We have been successful as an organization in introducing the kind of talent that I hope could one day lead to a ... postseason berth," Orioles president Andy MacPhail said. "It is on that ... Pitcher Brian Matusz is being shut down by the Baltimore Orioles, who are wary of overextending the rookie left-hander in his first professional season. "It's the right thing to do for Matusz and it's the right thing to do for the Baltimore Orioles," manager Dave Trembley said Monday. "He's a very big part of our future (and had) a tremendous season, based upon not just how he performed here but where he came from. A year ago he was at the University of San Diego. He wasn't expected to be here," Trembley said. When rookie right-hander Brad Bergesen sustained a bruised shin July 30 ... Read Full Story
BALTIMORE (Reuters) - Baltimore Orioles rookie Matt Wieters has rock-star status among fans who have not seen their team have a winning season since Tiger Woods won his first golfing major. The Orioles had 42,704 packed into Camden Yards to watch Wieters' big-league debut in late May, giving him a standing ovation as he walked to the plate for the first time in his career. The night before, the Orioles drew a crowd of 11,937. "I've been in baseball a long time and I've never seen a guy that's never been in the big leagues before come up to the plate and get a ... Orioles All-Star center fielder Adam Jones will miss at least two to three weeks with a severe left ankle sprain that could keep him sidelined for the rest of the season. Jones was hurt in the sixth inning of Tuesday night's game against the New York Yankees. After reaching first on an infield grounder, Jones overran, scrambled back and twisted his leg on the base. He stayed in the game momentarily before leaving. Jones was on crutches Wednesday. Orioles manager Dave Trembley acknowledged that the injury could end Jones' season. He will be replaced in center field by Felix Pie. Jones is batting .277 ... Read Full Story

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Adam Jones is out of the lineup because of a sore back. Orioles manager Dave Trembley said Jones would sit out Monday night's game at Minnesota. Jones was Baltimore's lone representative at the All-Star game. He is hitting .283 this season with 10 home runs and 70 RBIs. With Jones out of the lineup, Felix Pie started in center field for Baltimore. Jones hit an RBI single in the first inning Sunday against Chicago, but was replaced in the bottom half because his back was bothering him. After Sunday's game, Jones said that he hoped to be back in the lineup ... Read Full Story
Jeez...Trembley hasn’t given this much thought to moves since the Corbomite Maneuvers. The skipper saw rookies Nolan Reimold and Matt Wieters deliver at the plate last year and both should have prominent spots in the lineup come April. “As the year went on last year we tried to get those guys in slots we felt they were eventually going to be. Both of those guys passed the test with flying colors. Spring training is an opportunity to tinker...

In a move that comes as a little bit of a surprise, the Baltimore Orioles will pick up manager Dave Trembley’s option for 2010. This means Trembley will be back to manager the Orioles. I say the move is a little surprising because the Orioles have played so bad down the stretch (they have 13 out of 15), there would be pressure on GM Andy MacPhail to replace Trembley. But according to Steve Melewski of MASNsports.com, Trembley hasn’t lost...

At first reaction, the announcement on Friday that the Baltimore Orioles have retained the services of manager Dave Trembley for the 2010 season seems like a head-scratcher. After all, typically in professional sports the fate of a manager is judged by wins and losses, and in that area Trembley has failed miserably. Since Trembley became manager of the O’s midway through the 2007 season he has posted a 169-244 record and the team’s winning...

Last night B&C’s own J. Jonah Smithwicks broke the shocking news that Baltimore Orioles manager Dave Trembley would be back managing the team in 2010. Today, thanks to the crack investigative reporting you’ve come to expect from us, the inexplicable has become somewhat more explicable.  Sources in deepest smelliest Baltimore tell us that the Orioles were originally seeking out a replacement for Trembley, who has guided the Orioles to a 172-244...
