Ned Yost, expressing concern over actually having a winning record with the Royals after 41 games, has contacted Brewers hitting coach Dale Sveum to gauge his availability to manage the Royals Aug 23-31 while Yost enjoys some family fun in the US Virgin Islands.

“Dale has a proven track record of quickly filling my shoes in an emergency situation,” said Yost. “If he can take my 2008 Brewers squad to the playoffs on zero days notice, imagine what Dale could do with this Royals team if I gave him a 90-day heads-up?”

While Suevm could not be reached for comment, a source close to the Brewers tells us that Sveum “is more likely the grow his ’87 mustache back than accept Ned’s request.”
