David Caruso: Trilogy Chapter II
CSI's foray into the world of sequential episodes continued last night with Dr. Ray Langston's (Laurence Fishburne) traveling from Miami to New York. Still in pursuit of a missing girl, victims and suspects pile up. Each city solves a portion of the crimes, yet each unveil another layer, exposing the insidious depths of human trafficking.
The glaring differences between Monday's Miami segment and last night's NY portion were not the huge chasm as expected. Due to the vastly different settings, cast members, writing and production crews, we were pleasantly surprised at the somewhat natural segue from one to the other.
We took notice of a couple of specifics:
(a) It appeared Dr. Langston interacted primarily with Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise) in NY, while he had scenes with most, if not all, the Miami cast. Strange in many ways, as Horatio (David Caruso) and Dr. Langston meshed very well. One might say it would be too much intensity; however, Mac Taylor is even more deadpan than either Horatio or Ray.
(b) Dave Benton (Wes Ramsey), Miami's labrat, managed scenes in both episodes.
(c) Michael Massee does sleaze perfectly as the scumladen Casey Steele.
(d) Battery Park's WWII Memorial provided a nice tribute to our veterans with the Ray Langston/Mac Taylor exchange.
(e) CSI NY, at least in this episode, gave the audience much more physicality. We especially loved the chase scene with Flack (Eddie Cahill) and Hawkes (Hill Harper), and then Sheldon's confrontation with the organ transplant surgeon.
All in all, we liked the episode. Let's see what tonight brings, in the conclusion of the trilogy, as Dr. Langston's completes the circle with his return to Las Vegas, our least preferred of the CSI shows.
Linked is Kristine Huntley's review of "Bone Voyage". Our opinion of her reviews deteriorates with each new offering. What do you think?
