David Caruso: Trilogy Generates Interest
Yep, we watched all three parts of the CSI trilogy, which concluded last night on LV. Did you see all three? What did you think of them, individually and as a set?
We previously commented on both "CSI Miami" and "CSI NY". Those will stand. It's tough to comment on "CSI LV", as we've never been a steady viewer. However, as a whole, they were a ratings success. For diehard fans of any of the three, we doubt any of the three would hold up as a series favorite.
Fans of "CSI Miami" would critique there was too much of Langston (Laurence Fishburne) and not enough of their particular favorite; i.e., Horatio (David Caruso). The same would be true of fans specific to "CSI NY".
As an isolated episode, we rather enjoyed "CSI LV" though, as the conclusion after a 2-tiered buildup, it was anti-climatic. The victim survived. It's focus on the slave trade prevalent throughout the country (world) explored just a few of the layers of activity involved. We hoped for more depth there.
All of these shows have touched on various aspects of the movement at some point. None have centered on a thorough investigation, remaining with the forensics and the victim(s) du jour. Understandable, yet frustrating.
Those who expected a continual stream from one to the other were sadly disappointed. As we mentioned previously, 3 different cities, characters, writers, et al, ruled out any possibility of a TBC, in the context we usually see. It was bumpy in spots, requiring the audience to shift gears frequently. However, also as noted before, residual contracts for each CSI are with separate networks, mandating each segment be a stand-alone.
Addressing the various complicated intricacies inherent in such an undertaking is no small achievement. In this scrunched economic climate, we think TPTB did very well. Their intent to boost their ratings during sweeps week was a success. What more could we (or they) ask?
