David Caruso: CBS Ups CSI Miami to 24 Episodes
What, you say? Don't they always do 24 episodes per season. Quite true, in the past, save the '07-'08 writer's strike season, but the winds have shifted in our struggling economy.
In an apparent belt-tightening move, CBS ordered only 22 episodes of their standing, scripted shows this season, less for new offerings. Now, as the year progresses and the numbers appear to be holding, CBS has ordered two additional episodes for "CSI Miami", "NCIS" and "NCIS LA" (though we wonder how this one would fare as a stand-alone, without parental lead-in), "How I Met Your Mother" and "Two and a Half Men".
Several others have been issued orders for one additional episode, bringing "CSI", "CSI NY", "Criminal Minds", "The Good Wife" (why this one would be included eludes us), "Big Bang Theory" and "The Mentalist" up to 23 each.
"Accidentally on Purpose", Jenna Elfman's in-vogue cougar themed yawner, is up for 5 new episodes, bringing its total to 18.
Prospects for Season 9 are looking good for Miami, though they lost first place this past Monday to World Series Baseball. And they say baseball is dead. Don't think so.
