David Caruso: Threads of a Trilogy
"Bone Voyage" served quite well as both a stand-alone and as part of a trilogy, and expect the same from the "CSI NY" segment due, we suspect, as a forethought to residual revenue (the three have residual contracts with three different networks).
We found it a most entertaining episode. Barry O'Brien and Sam Hill did superb writing and directing chores on this one. The Ryan-Walter schtick is down pat, with perfect timing, providing that much needed humor in a believable, lovable pair.
Some great lines came out of this one. "Dumb as a spoon" and "Think like a bear" are just a sample. Walter's reaction to witnesses and suspects is right on. The meeting with the bear was priceless (Walter's response to Ryan, "I can't BE small and insignificant"). Ryan has finally found his niche; a younger bro to torment as he's been harassed by the other CSI's since Day One.
Double murder (one in Miami, one a week earlier in LV), body parts from both found in Miami. There was a tad more of the macabre than we willingly tolerate, looking away often like a squeamish teen. Ask us again why our youngens aren't allowed to watch.
"CSI Miami" had the full contingent mostly on board; Horatio (David Caruso) at his sympathetic best (liked the slomo with victim's Mom). Guest Laurence Fishburne, from "CSI LV" as Dr. Ray (drop the Dr., H), meshed well with the regulars; Natalia, Calleigh, Tom (the ME), labrats Benton and Travers, were well represented, along with the appropriate presence of Jesse. Little of Frank, explicable with the preponderance of forensics. Louis Mandylor did a great job as Jimmy, the saw-wielding pimp.
The hanging thread, we assume, is provided by the Miami victim's identity thief and her boyfriend, who behaves with far more authority than a loving companion.
