David Caruso: Britain Has Wallander; US Has Horatio!

Wallender, a Swedish import, stamped with British dialogue and actors, has now arrived, via PBS, in The States. We haven't seen it yet.

As a longtime fan of Kenneth Branagh, who plays Inspector Wallender, we suspect we will have some difficulty remaining even remotely objective. Great! Our leisure time pie will be, once again, divided into even smaller portions.

The Holly Robinson article from Huffington gives a nice overview of the production. While we don't particularly agree with her assessment of David or of CSI Miami, her take on Wallender does pique our interest.

For whatever vague reasons, we Americans have elevated anything with an accent to a level above our own homegrown variety. American performers are encouraged to lose their regional dialects, yet we salivate over Branagh, Crowe, Hopkins, Dench, Mirren, Blanchett and Kidman. Ah, it's all about perception!
