A community portal about David Lynch with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: David Keith Lynch is an American filmmaker. Lynch's films are known for their elements of surrealism, their nightmarish and dreamlike sequences, their stark and strange images, and their meticulously crafted audio. Often his work explores the seedy underside of small-town U.S.A. (e.g. Blue Velvet and the Twin Peaks television series) or sprawling metropolises (Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive). Due to his peculiar style and focus on the American psyche, comedian Mel Brooks once called Lynch "Jimmy Stewart from Mars."

Blue Velvet is a strange, strange movie. Well, of course, this is David Lynch, right? But no, it isn't strange like his other movies. Those are unique and uncanny and surreal, but they connect on a dream level, appealing to subconscious tics you didn't even know you had. Not Blue Velvet , at least not for me. I first saw it five years ago, shortly after Mulholland Drive and I couldn't figure out why it was considered the superior film. Its dark-side-of-suburbia theme seemed trite and old-hat, and its surrealism paled in comparison to Mulholland Drive 's ethereal atmosphere, which you could sink into ... Read Full Story

The exhibition, which included Lynch’s photographs of the 5 limited edition shoes alongside the lovely fetishistic shoes themselves, moved now to Galerie du Passage in Paris until November 3. Hopefully, this show moves to the US for us to enjoy and appreciate. I will keep my eye out for it and let you know. The shoes include a 26cms heel, ... Read Full Story

Yup, France loves director David Lynch -but I still don't get the Jerry Lewis thing. American filmmaker David Lynch was awarded the Legion d'Honneur, France's highest civilian honor, in a ceremony in Paris last week. The director of art house favorites such as Eraserhead, Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive, and co-creator of cult-hit TV series Twin Peaks, was presented with the award by French President, Nicolas Sarkozy, an admitted fan of the auteur's work. The head-of-state told the director that seeing The Elephant Man as a teenager "definitely convinced" him that "cinema was a highly important matter." He praised the director for "constraining the ... Read Full Story

The exhibition opens on Friday October 3, at Altered Esthetics Gallery in Minneapolis. The show will feature surreal and otherworldly artwork inspired in part by the creative genius of David Lynch. I'm participating with The Other Side , a painting from 2004. David Lynch's films are known for surreal, nightmarish and dreamlike images and meticulously crafted sound design. His work often explores the seedy underside of "Small Town U.S." (particularly Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks), or sprawling California metropolises (Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive and his latest release Inland Empire)... Even the most casual Star Wars and/or David Lynch scholar knows that Lynch was offered a gig directing Return of the Jedi and turned it down. Lynch's features at that point were Eraserhead and The Elephant Man -- both incredible examples of storytelling and world building on relatively controlled budgets. One can only surmise that something along those lines is what Lucas put the job in Lynch's path. The fact of not doing the film isn't...
