rag & bone 2011 Fall Collection

As made evident by their latest collection for Fall 2011, British design duo Marcus Wainwright and David Neville of the NYC-based label rag & bone are slowly branching away from their denim roots and taking their menswear to a whole new level. With expert tailoring and an exceptional penchant for layering, the most recent rag & bone collection somehow manages to give a subtle nod to royalty while also evoking a unique and slightly futuristic feeling. Inspired by photos of the Duke of Windsor, the designers incorporated an array of tartan plaids onto everything from jackets and suits to quilted shirts and kilts. With a fairly eclectic color palette, the collection also featured the use of ivory, including it in everything from an all-while wool suit to quilted leggings that were reminiscent of something one might see at Givenchy. One biker jacket that was particularly impressive featured a red and green tartan print on the chest while incorporating white, woolen sleeves and a contrasting ivory chest pocket. By branching out and taking a calculated risk, Wainwright and Neville have certainly proved themselves with a collection that just might have been rag & bone’s strongest one to date.
