David Ogden Stiers is gay?

Actor David Ogden Stiers has come out - the M*A*S*H star admits he’s gay in a new interview. Meh. It doesn’t seem like the “coming out, yep I’m gay” news is really news anymore.

After acting on various television shows in the 1970s, David Ogden Stiers,77 years old found national fame as Maj. Charles Emerson Winchester on M*A*S*H for the latter part of the series.

Along with numerous roles in film and television, he found a new audience when providing the voice of Cogsworth in Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" and the villainous Ratcliffe in "Pocahontas."

In an interview with the website Gossip-Boy.com, Stiers says he hasn’t always been comfortable talking about his personal life, but felt that now’s the right time:

I wish to spend my life’s twilight being just who I am. I could claim noble reasons as coming out in order to move gay rights forward, but I must admit it is for far more selfish reasons. Now is the time I wish to find someone and I do not desire to force any potential partner to live a life of extreme discretion with me.

Stiers also explained that he stayed in the closet for so long because he feared occupational backlash: "Even though many have this idealistic belief that the entertainment industry [is] gay friendly. For the most part they are, but that doesn’t mean for them that business does not come first."

GossipBoy.com asked: “You are gay. Right, David?” And David Ogden Stiers answered: “Yes, I am. Very proud to be so.”
According to imdb.com, the actor just revealed his true sexuality for the first time. He was warned against telling audiences he was gay throughout his acting career, but now wants to search for a life partner.

Stiers is still busy working in Hollywood and has two more projects in the works.
