Today is another sad day for Bill and I since one of the most remarkable human beings that we ever met had just passed away. Sydney Pollack died yesterday of cancer. Sydney Pollack and Bill (photo above) were partners for over ten years and together they produced some great movies. Sydney has been Bill's most important Mentor and some kind of Father figure since his beginnings in Hollywood, that's why this loss is one of the most painful that Bill ever experienced. I met Sydney for the first time in 2001 in Vietnam when he was producing The Quiet American with Bill. I admired ... Read Full Story

I read today that Sydney Pollack died. To me, he was not the Oscar-winning director, the man behind Out of Africa, The Way We Were, The Firm or many others. Sydney Pollack was remembered by some of the elite actors he directed in films such as “Out of Africa,” “Tootsie,” and “Absence of Malice,” not only for his Academy Award-winning direction, but also for his acting talents. Unlike many other top directors of his era, Pollack was also a film and television actor himself , and he used this unique position to forge a relationship with Hollywood’s elite stars and create some of ... Acclaimed Academy-Award winning director and producer, Sydney Pollack died Monday at age 73. Pollack is known for directing and/or directing several critically critically acclaimed films as well as hit films, including They Way We Were , Three Days of the Condor , Out of Africa , Tootsie , and the recent Michael Clayton . Full story in the NY Times and CNN. Commentary Despite the commercial and critical success of Tootsie and Out of Africa , I think that Three Days of the Condor remains my all-time favorite of Pollack's works. Unfortunately, I haven't seen Michael Clayton . I shall have to remedy that. Read Full Story
