The apparel export industry provides employment to 2.5 million workers directly, and three million indirectly, earns foreign exchange of Rs.50,000 crore annually and the need of the hour is to raise the level of exports to US$ 25 Billion by the year 2012, said Thiru Dayanidhi Maran, Union Textile Minister while giving away the apparel exports awards and life time achievement awards. Thiru. Dayanidhi Maran, Minister of Textiles will be leading a high level trade delegation to Switzerland, Italy and Turkey from October 26, 2009 to November 03, 2009, to attract foreign investment in the Indian Textiles Sector. The areas identified are, establishment of Green Field Units in textiles machinery, fabric manufacturing, garmenting, manmade fibre and yarn, and bringing investments in technical textiles and clothing brands to Indian domestic market. The Government is actively considering to setup additional 15 parks under the Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP) at an estimated cost of Rs. 2,000 crore by 2012, said Thiru. Dayanidhi Maran, Union Textiles Minister while inaugurating the Gujarat Eco Textile Park,at Surat , Gujarat today. The Minister said the Park is the perfect example of industrial growth and environmental sustainability.
