Last season, the Carolina Panthers had the NFL's seventh-ranked offense behind rookie quarterback Cam Newton, veteran targets like Steve Smith and Greg Olsen, and the running back duo of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. And while all of those guys will be back, along with at least one new face in running back Mike Tolbert, the Panthers were near the bottom of the league in defense, and they have yet to do much of anything to upgrade...  

Often under-apreciated: DeAngelo Williams consistently cements himself as one of the best running backs in the NFL, regardless of carries.

Then the lockout lifted and somehow Newton convinced Smith to stay in Carolina, and the team decided it was a good idea to bring back DeAngelo Williams for a large sum ... but fans shouldn’t forget about David Gettis, who fell to an ACL tear last summer.  

Our major free agent acquisition was fullback Mike Tolbert. We already have running backs DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, and of course Cam Newton can run as well as throw, so I believe we should run the wishbone. Can't you see it? Fake the handoff ...

I'd probably disagree with him on "a little more weapons around him than Cam" though, and I'm going to guess that Steve Smith, DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart, Greg Olsen and probably even Pierre Garcon would agree with me. But that's Hall's prerogative.

A significant number of Carolina Panthers fans were expecting them to draft a hulking defensive tackle with their first round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. Instead the Panthers went after Boston College linebacker Luke Kuechly. Though he is not the guy that fans expected, he is still looking like a wonderful pick. As a huge Carolina Panthers fan myself, I can easily see how he will improve our defense in a number of ways.  

When the Carolina Panthers reached out and got former Arkansas standout Joe Adams, I literally stood up and cheered. Finally, for the first time in years, the Cats have a real threat on special teams. As a huge Carolina Panthers fan, that feels awfully good. CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) The Panthers have signed all seven of their draft picks, including linebacker Luke Kuechly from Boston College, Carolina's first-round pick and the No. 9 overall choice.  

The Carolina Panthers 2012 NFL Draft grades were good, mostly in the A- and B+ range, indicating a fairly good draft (I compiled the Panthers draft grades here as a quick reference guide).
