This detail has risen to the forefront over recent federal perjury charges for the Rocket. However, it is not what Clemens claims he did not do or where he claims he wasn’t that is most intriguing – rather it is what he admits.

Roger Clemens made a scapegoat of his wife, admitting that HGH entered his house – but not his behind – so that she could tone up to look the part of trophy wife for a SI photo shoot. Now, what wife of a legend of the fall would allow a legacy tarnishing supplement to enter their household for a matter of vanity?

Clemens’ wife using HGH in Roger’s house is as absurd as Minister Farrakhan’s wife cooking pork chops while reading her daily Koran. It is something that just would not happen. If there is bacon on the stove, Clemens is fixing a plate.

Steroids have become an issue worthy of government debate and spending because of the drug’s potential to corrupt the youth, not just baseball’s holy grail of statistics. However, the media, let alone the government, is yet to take issue with a woman using human growth hormone to lose weight for a photo shoot.

Dare I suggest that the problem of women, and men, using substances and unhealthy means to lose weight and improve their looks, is a far bigger issue than kids using steroids in high school?

Approximately 1% of all adolescent females suffer from anorexia, while 4% suffer from bulimia. These statistics do not seem staggering at first, but when you factor in that the sample relates to all female adolescents, and not the small percentage of young athletes looking for a competitive edge, it is clear that female eating disorders are a much bigger problem than the use of steroids.

Obvious? Yes. But in the case of Roger Clemens and his wife, overlooked seems to be a more fitting word. A legendary baseball player is getting crucified, albeit well deserved, for using a drug to cheat, while his wife’s use of the drug for narcissism has gone accepted. I understand baseball is our national pastime and steroids is its biggest and most recent blemish, but I must wonder whether we have got our priorities straight.

I am all for big home runs and power strike outs - just as I am all for taking a super attractive and thin young woman out for red wine and steak. But why would I pay the price of admission to watch a cheater? More importantly, why would I pay for a meal my date is just going to throw up in the bathroom?
