DWTS, Season 9 Results Show 11/10/09

dwts

Results shows make me nervous.   At this point, I like everyone and don’t really want to send any of them home.

The judges chose to see Joanna and Derek’s paso again, despite Mya’s perfect thirty. They noted that it was odd that they snubbed her, then gave a sort of non-reason for having done so. And then went on about how cool this paso was. Which it absolutely was, I have to say, though, it was better last night than tonight.

Contestant Reaction to the Show:

Aaron said “hearing Carrie Ann say that my spazmastic attitude has changed on the dance floor felt good.”

Donny said he had fun this week.

Kelly said that “this week has been incredible.”

Joanna and Derek said in unison, “We got a 29!!…and a 22.”

Mya and Dmitry cheered on their team, which they have named ‘Team D’mya.’

Tom dims the lights in dramatic fashion and goes through the contestants, one by one.

Aaron had the widest gap in the scores.

Donny was at the bottom for the first time.

Mya has the highest total number of points this season and first perfect score.

Joanna’s missteps prevented her from reaching perfection.

Kelly’s scores gave her the lowest total points this season. Did she improve enough to move on?

Joanna and Derek were the first safe couple.

Ballroom Round Reactions:

Aaron said he hoped his second performance would be the chance to redeem himself.

(It ended up being so, but he still ended up tied for the lowest score for the night.)

Derek: That was the worst we’ve ever done that dance, ever.

(Also did much better on their second dance, though it was hard for anything to be as good as their second dance, that paso.)

Kelly and Louis hugged and cried. Kelly said, “even if I go home tonight, I know that dance couldn’t have been better.”

Donny: Right from the beginning, they said I overperformed and that has been in my head since day one.

Mya, in respose to Len’s inability to come up with something negative: “I feel like pigs are flying right now!”

(She’s right-what does Len have against her? Even when she doesn’t use the gimmicks that he tends to hate, he’s particularly harsh on her.)

Latin/Decades Round Reaction:

Aaron: We had the 90’s era, and we got three 9’s. Go figure, right?

Donny: I think we did 2 things to the audience: entertained them, and I think we scared them.

(Their 80’s routine definitely went off the deep end at times, but it was cute. Right? Or is that more of Donny’s signature showmanship?)

Kelly: I didn’t think it could get better than last week, and it has!

(Once again, why did Len not mention the gimmick?  He hates them on Mya and gave Kelly a free pass last night. I will never understand him.)

Joanna: I’m glad I came back in the second round. I was a little worried.

Derek: Me too.

Mya: At first, Carrie Ann said she’s not convinced I want to win. I think I showed her.

All the stars then mentioned how badly they wanted to make it through the night.

Michael Buble performed “I Haven’t Met You Yet,” a song off of his new album, as Cheryl & Max and Jonathan & Anna danced.

Joanna, in reaction to being safe another week and having to do three dances next week: We’ll have to train more hours and eat more food.

Derek: I know she’s got what it takes, and I know she can do it. She can stumble and pick herself up and do this paso.

‘Team Dmya’ was the next to be declared safe.

Dance Center Analysis featuring Kenny Main, Len Goodman, and Jerry Rice:

Kenny admitted to not watching the show this season, and said he’s neer been less prepared for anything.

Joanna

Len: You don’t get much hotter than Joanna.

Kenny: She’s the girl next door…in Poland.  But I don’t like Derek.  This is a family show.

Len: He’s a gentleman.

As a side note: I’m glad someone is pointing out their…er, tension. They are constantly overtly sexual. Sometimes it adds to what they’re trying to achieve, but I think a lot of it is the desire to point out the fact that Joanna is, in fact, very attractive. We get it.

Donny

Kenny: He’s timeless.

Len: As a performer, as a showman, hes second to none. I cant believe how much energy he has.

Jerry: How old is he? He acts like a 3 year old on sugar. I hope I have that much energy when im 82!

Aaron

Kenny: Who is he?

Len: He’s a singer.

Kenny: Is he good?

Len: Very good. He started strong, and his confidence has grown. Gave him my first 10.

Kenny: He cries all the time.

Len: Don’t confuse crying with being emotional, he’s 21 and a very emotional person.

Jerry: Its a stupid TV show about dancing.  What are you crying about?  He also has the lowest pain threshold I’ve ever seen in my life.

Jerry: He’s so fragile, he’s like a snowflake resting on a lily.

Sabrina was chosen to do the Paso for Design-A-Dance to “Eye of the Tiger.” with professional Mark Ballas.  She’s every bit as good as remembered.  Just an incredible performance.

Michael Buble performed “Feeling Good.”

Samantha: If you go home tonight, what will you have learned?

Donny: I would have learned how much a body can ache.

Kelly: It would be that if you’re willing, even though it’s scary and it makes you vulnerable, if you push yourself a little bit farther, you can find out how far you can go.

Aaron: A numerous amount of life lessons.

Donny and Kym were the next safe, leaving Kelly and Aaron on the wire.

Susan Boyle sang “I Dreamed a Dream.” Tony and Chelsie danced beautifully. Such a great song.

Back to Dance Center:

Kelly Osbourne

Kenny: She wears absurd bows, like 8 feet long.

Len: She’s an enigma. She can come out and dance incredibly, but then does that foxtrot, lacking all the energy she usually has.

Kenny: She swears like a trucker! She thinks she can get away with because of her cute face and British accent.

Len: That girl is lovely.

Dmitry

Kenny: I see him winning the whole thing.

Len: Dmity is the professsional. Mya is the star.

Pause.

Kenny: She’s thirty, looks younger. Right Jerry?

Jerry: Yeah, she’s hot.

Len: There isn’t any dance she isnt capable of doing. but she keeps doing these gimmicky things.

Kenny: She may be a great dancer, but she needs a counselor for those anger issues.

Jerry: That is one scary woman.

Len: Every one of these guys has the potential to win.

Kenny: That’s like the three of us have the chance of sitting in chairs right now.

Len:Not a CHANCE, the POTENTIAL.

Kenny: Enough of that. We have a new technology to predict the winner.

They introduced this ‘new technology,’ which happened to be magnetic basketball, where they slid the remaining stars and their partners around (the stars, of course, were just the plastic figures used for the game with photos of the stars and professionals taped on them). Then they shook the court, all the characters fell down, and Kenny picked one up at random, then ‘predicted’ Mya winning.

And back on the show, Aaron was sent home.

Samantha: What’s the best part, that you will always remember?

Aaron: I will always remember the lessons that I’ve learned. I’ve grown so much with your compliments and criticisms, so thank you.

Tom Bergeron said that if Aaron were to go home, Len had a message he wanted to give to him. “The dedication that you have shown week after week is inspiring to young people. If you were my son, I would be so proud of you. More importantly, you should be proud of yourself.”

I also want to say that I like that every time the cameras have panned out on all the stars this season, Aaron and Kelly have been chatting. I like that they have become friends, they seem like such polar opposites and yet also both just really great people.

Sigh, another week on the books.
