Kansas City B-B-Qs Cincinnati; Bengals Are Still In Shambles

Yeah, it is a corny title … but very timely. Despite being embarrassed by the Patriots on national TV two weeks ago and coming off a bye week, the Bengals looked icky again, losing to the Chiefs, 27-20.

The Bengals came out with a thud, giving up 15 yards on a personal foul on the opening kickoff. Four plays later, Blue Adams was called for a roughing the passer penalty … giving the Chiefs another 15 yards. .

The Bengals, who were 0-for-7 on third downs against the Patriots, were 1-for-10 on third downs against KC. Wow. They gained just 78 yards rushing because, well, they refused to run the ball. Just 18 attempts??? Tell me more about this explosive offense?

Tell me more about how Chad Johnson isn’t the problem. Dude pushed aside Marvin Lewis and sulked on the bench. Tell me more about how Marvin Lewis hasn’t lost this team.

The Bengals are in a tough spot. Coach Marvin Lewis must know that this isn’t cool:

  • 0-4 in their last four games.
  • 1-7 in their last eight games.
  • 6-12 in their last eighteen games.
  • 9-15 in their last 24 games.
  • The Bengals lost their 4th straight game coming out of a bye week.
  • Cincinnati is 4-15 lifetime after a bye week.

Or maybe he doesn’t. After the game, he said this:

“What I told our football team in there just now, I thought for the first time this football season we played like a football team in the second half of this game. And though we didn’t come out and win this football game today, I thought we made some progress and some signs of a football team, not a bunch of individual guys.”

Wow, again. You say these things if you are the coach of a bottom rung team. A team that nothing much was expected of. Teams that are still looking for their first win. Um, well, if not for a bad call against Todd Heap in Week 1, Cincinnati would be looking for their first victory.
