Denise New, an Arkansas woman, is being sued by her 16-year-old son, for allegedly logging into his Facebook account and posting slanderous things about him. New claims she was simply exercising her rights as a parent.

"If I'm found guilty on this it is going to be open season [on parents]," said New, speaing to Arkansas news station KATV. "You're within your legal rights to monitor your child and to have a conversation with your child on Facebook whether it's his account, or your account or whoever's account."
Her son claims that New logged into his account, changed his password so he could not log in, and then posted remarks about his personal affairs. She also says she communicated with his friends via Facebook, though it's not clear whether she was posing as her son or not.
Still, New believes she's firmily in the right, and even sees the case as a watershed moment for parent's rights. "I'm not gonna let this rest," New said. "I think this could be a precedent-setting moment for parents."'
Her son is currently living with his grandmother.
