Denver Bronco Running Backs Are Cursed

It used to be that if you were a running back you wanted to be drafte by the Denver Broncos. It seemed like every running back that played in Denver rushed for 1,000 yards and was a Pro Bowler. Now however, things have changed. The Broncos have lost six running backs this season to injury and you have to wonder what's going on in Denver. While running backs have success in Denver, their time is usually short lived. Terrell Davis, the team's all-time leading rusher was officially with Denver from 1995-2001, but really didn't play much after the 1998 season because of a torn ACL. Their running backs since Davis include: Mike Anderson, Olandis Gary, Clinton Portis, Ruben Droughns, Mike Bell, Travis Henry, and Selvin Young; and that's just before this season. This season saw Selvin Young, Michael Pittman, Ryan Torain, Peyton Hillis, Andre Hall, and P.J. Pope all get the start at running back and all are now out for the season with various injuries. Currently, Tatum Bell is their only running back but they are expected to sign Cory Boyd and Alex Haynes, not necessarily household names either.

After this injury-plagued season, you have to ask if being a running back in Denver is both a dream and a curse. No running back since Terrell Davis has played more than 4 seasons in Denver and most see little to no success outside of Denver (except Clinton Portis of course). While most of Denver's success running the ball comes from their questionable blocking schemes, I wonder if running backs will start cringing instead of celebrating when they hear they are playing in Denver.
