Now that Lizzy has said her goodbyes , Manny Ramirez has been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a three-team swap that also sent Jason Bay from the Pittsburgh Pirates to Beantown. The second-place Dodgers also got some cash outa the deal, so that's pretty sweet for them. Manny is expected to make his LA debut Friday night for his new ex-rival manager Joe Torre against Randy Johnson and the Arizona Diamondbacks . Former Boston teammates Derek Lowe and Nomar Garciaparra are pumped about the move. "Manny is really a simple person," said Nomar. I'm sure he meant that in the nicest way ... Read Full Story

With 42-year-old Greg Maddux likely to retire, the Los Angeles Dodgers are on the lookout for a veteran presence to guide a pitching staff that just got very young with the additional free-agent departures of Derek Lowe, Brad Penny, Chan Ho Park, Joe Beimel and Jason Johnson. High on their list of targets is 45-year-old starter Randy Johnson, who they envision as a left-handed Maddux capable of eating innings and mentoring 20-year-old lefty Clayton Kershaw, and 41-year-old Doug Brocail, who could slide into Park's middle relief role or set up for Jonathan Broxton if 39-year-old closer Takashi Saito doesn't return according to MLB.com.Johnson had ... Derek Lowe is getting comfortable with his new team — on the field and off. Atlanta's new No. 1 starter, signed in the offseason as a free agent, struck out six in four hitless innings to lead the Braves over the Houston Astros 7-4 on Tuesday. The 35-year-old right-hander felt like the new kid in school when he first joined the team, but has since shed that status and feels great on the field and at ease in the clubhouse. Lowe agreed to a four-year, $60 million contract with the Braves in January after going 14-11 with a 3.24 ERA for the Los Angeles ... Read Full Story

Last night, Derek Lowe was masterful in a career-high, 11-strikeout performance against the AL West leading Angels . Over seven solid innings, he allowed one run and four hits leading the Dodgers to a 2-1 victory and sole possession of first in the NL West. We all know Dodger fan was there and loved every second of it. Humbly, Lowe had this to say: “I think my experience pitching in the American League for so many years definitely helps in Interleague play. You’ve got to go right at American League teams because these guys are potent hitters — especially when they get into pitcher’s ... Read Full Story

Ken Davidoff of Newsday tells us that “the Braves will shop Derek Lowe more aggressively” after John Lackey signs. That only makes sense, since most of the teams willing to pay for Lowe are probably in on Lackey as well (and presumably Lackey is the more desirable commodity). But only one team can [...]

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe says Derek Lowe wants to stay in Atlanta, and doesn’t want to be traded. According to Cafardo, the Braves haven’t told Lowe anything regarding a trade, but he has heard to buzz in the media about the Braves looking to deal him for offense, telling Cafardo: “I know they have holes [...]

I was thinking recently of who the Braves will trade one of their starting pitchers to since they will be trading one of them this offseason, or so they say. It's obvious that Derek Lowe will be hard to deal due to his contract (although all the experts thought he was a good value last offseason), and the Braves would be crazy to trade either Jair Jurrgens or Tommy Hanson. So Javier Vazquez is the obvious choice. But to who? I say they deal...
