Adam Caplan of FOXSports is reporting that the Kansas City Chiefs have
signed linebacker Derrick Johnson to a five-year extension worth over $34 million, with $15 million guaranteed. Johnson was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the season.
Johnson was playing with his restricted free agent tender that was worth a little less than $2.5 million - all of which is guaranteed.
“
We’re excited for him, and I think it’s a great move for the Chiefs,” Johnson's agent Jeff Nalley said. “The defense has been playing lights out this year. It’s a smart move by (Chiefs General Manager) Scott Pioli to get this done. Kansas City is home for him (and) his wife and his young son, and he’s excited about staying there for a long time.”
