In Miami last weekend, the Pittsburgh Steelers 2009 season came to a fitting conclusion in the waning moments of the final regular season game—Ike Taylor intercepted a pass.   It was his first interception since December 7, 2008, and, amazingly, the first pick of 2009 from a Steelers starting cornerback.  (I’m not counting Deshea Townsend’s earlier pick, because he wasn’t a regular starter.)  Sure, there were only 36 seconds left in the season...

Offensive line coach Larry Zierlein has been fired, the first Steelers assistant coach to lose his job since coach Mike Tomlin was hired in 2007. Zierlein was supposed to meet with some of his linemen on Wednesday, only to be told he was being replaced. He was seen leaving the Steelers' offices with several large boxes.  

Just a few items from me real quick as I drive back from to Seattle to begin the new year in earnest. First off, too bad we don't have at least one Steelers playoff game to get excited about this year. I absolutely love the week leading up to the Wild Card round, and in those special years when the black and gold has a first round bye, the two weeks leading up to their playoff game.
