After a successful first NFL game in London last year, between the Miami Dolphins & New York Giants, the NFL had the New Orleans Saints & San Diego Chargers travel over the pond to square-off. The stadium was packed, and 81,000+ seats were sold out well in advance. The Saints were considered the “home” team at Wembley stadium in London . During the UK national anthem, “God Save the Queen”, the entire stadium sang along with “Joss Stone” (cute singer) - something you don’t really see at American stadiums. One of the questions that I kept hearing this season was why didn’t the Saints use RB Deuce McAllister more. There were several third and short situations where McAllister represented the best option but Coach Payton didn’t use him. There were also games where the Saints ran a few plays with McAllister and then seemed to forget about him. For the season, McAllister finished 50th in the league with 418 rushing yards. He averaged 3.9 yards per carry, the same as Matt Forte with Chicago and Ryan Grant with Green Bay. LaDainian Tomlinson with San Diego averaged 3.8 yards per carry. McAllister had five ... Filed under: Saints , NFC South , New Orleans NFL Offseason Roadmap is a series focused on the needs of NFL teams as they begin the offseason. 1. Defensive Tackle/Linebacker/Cornerback . I know this reeks of a cop-out, and I guess you’re right. But every time I think that the Saints need one of these positions over the others, I change my mind. On one hand you’ve got defensive tackle, where Hollis Thomas , the only true nose tackle, is 34 and playing year-to-year. He’s consistent against the run and pass, but can’t play a full game anymore. The rest of the tackles are ... Read Full Story

No surprise here. The New Orleans Saints cut veteran running back and all time leading rusher Deuce McAllister today. McAllister, the Saints’ all-time leading rusher with 6,069 yards, was due over $7 million next season. The Saints said they granted McAllister his release so he could seek offers from other teams. But cutting McAllister the Saints are now under the 123 million salary cap. Knee injuries have slowed him down the past couple of seasons. In his past two years, McAllister had only 131 carries and 510 yards. He played for the Saints for 8 seasons rushing for 6096 yards and scoring 49 touchdowns. ... Read Full Story

The Saints saw their window as Now so they made some moves in the offseason that suggest they are going for it. The added Jeremy Shockey to an already potent Offense. On Defense the brought in new faces like Jonathan Vilma, Sedrick Ellis, and Randall Gay. We’ll see how these moves work for them. On offense they stacked. Drew Brees is a Top 5 QB in this league. He consistently tops 4000 yards. Adding Shockey at Tight End gives him another threat, and the best one at that position since Antonio Gates in his San Diego days. He has some solid wideout to get ... Read Full Story
