His real name was Devdutta Pishorimal Anand. Dev Anand is one of the most popular stars the Hindi Film Industry has seen. In his heydeys, he was considered the epitome of the suave, urban gentleman.
Dev D star Kalki Koechlin wins Playwright Award
Kalki Koechlin, who made her debut as Chanda in Dev D, and actor Prashant Prakash have won the MetroPlus Playwright Award 2009 for their co-authored entry Skeleton Woman.
This award has been instituted by The Hindu for the best original, unpublished and unperformed English script and carries a prize of Rs. 1 lakh.
Prakash, a graduate in English literature from Mumbai, has co-written a short play, The Block, and acted in productions such as Numbers in the Dark and Hair.
Koechlin , a graduate in Drama and Theatre Studies at Goldsmiths, University of London, worked with a theatre company called Theatre of Relativity for two years, where she performed in David Hare’s The Blue Room, Marivaux’s The Dispute and a devised play The Rise of the Wild Hunt.
